We are terribly sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this brings. Many of you come to see Bing & Rosemary croon in the holidays with us every year; it isn’t Christmas until we’ve all pulled into Pine Tree, Vermont together. It won’t be the same for us, either.

Without getting too “inside baseball,” here’s what happened. The big theater chain in the area has a nationally distributed screening of the show going on this month (so that’s good news, if you still want to catch it on the big screen). That booking gives them the right to refuse any other screening of the show in the region. Now, they’ve run movies that we have at similar times in the past (even White Christmas a couple years ago), but they’ve never exercised their refusal right…until now. Whether it was the national booking agency or the theater itself who refused the show, we don’t know, but it really doesn’t matter. This is how the film booking game works. It’s an imperfect, clunky process at times, and this is one of those times.

Should we have known better? Maybe. We booked the show in the fall without incident, as we have every year; all was ready to go as far as we could tell. It wasn’t until last week that they asserted their refusal right. There are a number of groups that can grant or revoke access to a title, and some of those groups can override the access granted by another. It happens, and we’re not the only ones affected. We’ve been lucky at how rarely we find ourselves tangled up with the “big guys,” but it still stings when it happens.

We desperately wanted to show the movie and looked under every rock we could find to keep the screening on. We even begged the distributor to let us show it for free as a canned food drive, just to keep folks from missing the show. But the title is blacked out altogether.
