5 Reasons to see Back to the Future
It’s official: Back to the Future is screening Thursday, June 13 at 7PM at the Egyptian Theatre! The first 200 ticket are gone, which got us to the tipping point and made the screening happen. But there are still a lot of you out there who haven’t yet picked up tickets. Need convincing? Well, here goes:
1. MJF worked his tail off to make it happen
The folks at Family Ties wouldn’t give poor Alex P. Keaton a break to go shoot Back to the Future. But only Michael J. Fox would do for the role of Marty McFly (a dud trial shoot with Eric Stoltz proved that point). Fox would shoot a full day of Family Ties during the day, and then go straight to the set of BTTF, shooting mostly between 6PM and 6AM, and also on weekends.
2. To feel the power of love
Huey Lewis & the News highlights the movie’s soundtrack with “Power of Love” (noted in the opening credits) and the lesser known, “Back in Time.” Huey Lewis even makes a cameo in the movie, telling Marty’s band, The Pinheads, that they are “just too darn loud,” a rejection Lewis once received himself.
3. Rock n Roll!
To convince his dad to ask his mom to the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance, Marty loads up the Walkman with a tape labeled “Edward Van Halen.” The band Van Halen wouldn’t sign off on the use of its name, but Eddie didn’t mind lending his. He even played an uncredited lick for the scene.
4. Dad wants to go
Father’s Day is June 16, and you KNOW that Dad wants to see Back to the Future with you. Or more likely, YOU are the dad and you want to see Back to the Future with your own kids. Well, do it! It’s your day, after all.
5. There’s no better way to see it
We’ve all seen Back to the Future, probably several times. Many of us even have the DVD sitting on our shelves. But watching it at home isn’t the same as watching it with a theater full of children of the 80s. We all know what’s coming when the flux capacitor lights up, and we can’t wait for it to happen; and when it does, we all get to laugh and enjoy it together. Add to the mix a magical venue like the Egyptian Theatre, and we’re all in for more fun at the movies than we’ve had in a long time!
