About This MovieToggle

Well nuts. Twister didn’t reach the tipping point in time. Unfortunately, it won’t be showing.  We still love you, Bill!

Bill Paxton was one of Hollywood’s great character actors. Occasionally a leading man, Paxton is often remembered for his smaller roles, which frequently stole the thunder from the leading cast.

For me, Bill Paxton’s role as Simon will always be the icing on the cake in True Lies, where he played a sleazy used car salesman trying to seduce Jamie Lee Curtis away from Arnold Schwarzenegger. When I remember True Lies, I don’t think of Arnold flying a Harrier jet in downtown Miami; I remember Bill Paxton describing Arnold’s own wife to him in terms that might make a sailor blush. It was terrible, and perfectly delivered!

Scenes like those that make Bill Paxton unforgettable across more movies than one may initially recall. He’s Chet in Weird Science. Or Morgan in Tombstone. Or Hudson in Aliens…this list could fill a page.

Of course, he was also an incredible lead. He shone in Resistance, Frailty (which he also directed), the HBO series Big Love (for which he was three-times nominated for Best Actor) , and of course as Bill Harding Twister.

Twister won the vote hands down. It wasn’t even close. So join us on March 22 as we remember the life and career of Bill Paxton.

Here’s a quick summary of  Twister:

TV weatherman Bill Harding is trying to get his tornado-hunter wife, Jo, to sign divorce papers so he can marry his girlfriend Melissa. But Mother Nature, in the form of a series of intense storms sweeping across Oklahoma, has other plans. Soon the three have joined the team of stormchasers as they attempt to insert a revolutionary measuring device into the very heart of several extremely violent tornados. –From IMDB
